Redeeming himself proves difficult. He must lose everything to save his soul.* * * * Best friends, Ben and Jeff grew up together in a small town. Ben had a seductive voice, and Jeff was a consummate musician. They formed a rock group and found success in New Hampshire and beyond. Ben rebelled against authority. Penny, Bens mother, smoothed things over between him and his father. Ben tells Father Keegan he returned to college and in January, came back to Beaumont for semester break. Jeffs father, Dr. Chase, provided Ben with a father figure while he was growing up.

After Ben discovered drugs, the doctor watched his decline. Like the priest, he had always thought Ben had some good in him. He called him into the office for a lecture. Ben promised to reform, but he was too far gone. The band rehearsed at Jeffs while his parents were out of town. The kids threw a party, and Ben got stoned on a mind-bending drug. He found his faithful groupie in the bedroom, passed out. Crawling into bed with her, he descended on the drowsy girl.
